Dr. David Lunn Miller

January 3, 1951 – October 14, 2021

  Dr. David Lunn Miller, 70, of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, died peacefully on Thursday, October 14, 2021 with family at his side. He had a lengthy battle with uveal melanoma.

   David is survived by two brothers, Stephen Miller (Cynthia) of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, and Dr. Michael Miller (Shawn) of Indian Land, South Carolina. He was a caring and attentive uncle to niece, Erin, and nephew, Jordan (Maddyson), and their two children.

   He was introduced to the organ at age 3 while spending time with his pastor father in his church. Throughout his youth in Kansas City he became known as an accomplished organist. He received his undergraduate degree at Southern Nazarene University, his master’s degree at Westminster Choir College, and his doctorate degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in both choral conducting and organ.

   Early in his career he was a part-time music director and then professor of music and organ at Nazarene colleges. He transitioned to full-time Director of Music Ministries and church organist positions.

   David most recently served Huntsville First United Methodist Church as Director of Music Ministries and organist from 2005 until his retirement in 2018.

   He devoted his life to the rigorous pursuit of excellence

in both choral conducting and organ performance.

   But we will remember David for his loving, caring spirit.

He was a godly, generous person who touched many people. His absence will leave a void in our lives.

   Visitation will be Sunday, November 14 at 2PM in the Historic Sanctuary of Huntsville First United Methodist Church, 120 Greene St. S.E. The memorial service will follow at 3PM with the Rev. Coy Hallmark officiating.
