Virginia Harless Cook, 90, passed away October 31, 2021. A native Huntsvillian, Virginia was born to Lee Dilworth Harless, Sr. and Julia Gasson Harless. A 1949 graduate of Huntsville High School, Virginia graduated from the University of Montevallo in 1953 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught over a thousand children in her 30-year teaching career which began in Tuskegee, AL and included Blossomwood, Ridgecrest and Fifth Avenue Elementary schools. Mrs. Cook was a charter member of the Huntsville Botanical Garden Guild; member of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild; Blossomwood Garden Club; Regent of Twickenham Town Chapter DAR; and state Board of the ASDAR. An active member of First United Methodist Church, she served on the Altar Guild and Meal Ministry; was a Sunday School teacher; and a member of the Faith Class, UMW, and the Joanna Circle. She leaves cherished family members: brother, Lee Dilworth Harless, Jr. (Carol Anderson Harless), Huntsville; nephew, Rob Ward; nieces, Julia Ward Youngblood (Gary) Statesboro, GA, Susan Ward Tarner (Richard), Helena, MT, Whitney Bruce Cox (Spencer), and Marilyn Bruce Durham (Michael); great-nephew, Cameron Cox; great-nieces, Ashleigh Cox, Taylor Durham and Sydnee Durham, and Jenny Tarner; and many special cousins and friends. 

Mrs. Cook was predeceased by husband, Lewis Jackson Cook, Jr.; parents; and sister, Mary Jane Harless Ward. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday November 21st at First United Methodist Church. The funeral will follow with the Rev. Coy Hallmark and the Rev. Dr. Bill Crosby officiating. The family wishes to thank the staff at Jenkins County Hospital and The Lodge at Bethany. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Huntsville Botanical Garden, Kate Duncan Smith DAR School, Grant, AL, or the Huntsville First United Methodist Church.
