It is the calling of the 12 directors and 15 music groups at the church to influence our community to know Christ. In our wide variety of worship services and musical styles, we strive to involve children, youth, and adults in praising the Lord through vocal and instrumental expressions of praise.
The traditional worship services in the historic Sanctuary include multiple choirs, a magnificent pipe organ, handbells, and brass ensemble. The contemporary setting of the Wesley Worship Center features praise bands and singers.
The children and youth choir directors have good musical training and a broad range of teaching experiences. They inspire our children to explore their talents and help them increase their musical skills and knowledge of the Christian worship traditions. In addition to participating in worship services during the school year, the children’s choirs also present musicals at different times of the year. We have also offered a summer music camp and included children from Children’s First, one of the urban outreach ministries of our congregation.
I would encourage you to explore our various music groups and see if God is calling you to be involved in one of them as your expression of praise to Him.
“Sing lustily and with a good courage.”
“…strive to unite your voices together, so as to make one clear melodious sound.”
“Above all sing spiritually. Have an eye to God in every word you sing. Aim at pleasing him more than yourself, or any other creature…so shall your singing be such as the Lord will approve there, and reward you when he cometh in the clouds of heaven.”
Excerpts from John Wesley’s Select Hymns, 1761
